Our Headed Type D Threaded Inserts for Wood — also known as Type D Insert Nuts or Screw-In Insert Nuts — are designed to provide strong, permanent threads in timber and wood-based sheet materials. Commonly used in knock-down furniture assemblies, these inserts are ideal for joinery, cabinetry, furniture manufacture, and general woodworking applications.
Made from high-quality zinc alloy and finished with a durable yellow passivation, these inserts offer excellent corrosion protection, wear resistance, and holding power. Their self-tapping external thread cuts cleanly into the base material, ensuring positive locking and strong resistance to pull-out caused by vibration, torsion, or tensile loads.
Installation is quick and simple — just screw the insert into the timber using the hex drive with standard hand or power tools. The headed (flanged) design prevents over-driving, splitting of surface layers, and enhances load distribution, improving joint stability and long-term performance. If your project requires a flush finish with the timber surface, why not shop our Type E Threaded Inserts — ideal for applications where a smooth, concealed appearance is desired. Shop Type E Unheaded Woodfit inserts here.
Suitable for hardwoods, softwoods, MDF, and composite boards, these inserts create reusable, internal metal threads for secure, professional fixings.
Please note: While the majority of our Woodfit inserts are supplied with a yellow passivated finish, on occasion, stock may be finished in bright zinc (BZP). This does not affect the product’s performance or quality.
